Rainer Brüderle (born 22 June 1945 in Berlin) is a German politician and member of the FDP. He served as Minister of Economics and Transport of Rhineland-Palatinate from 1987–1998. On 28 October 2009, he was appointed Federal Minister for Economics and Technology in the Cabinet Merkel II. On 12 May 2011, Brüderle left Federal Minister for Economics and Technology. Since 10 May 2011, he is chairman of a parliamentary group of his party.

M.P. Rainer Brüderle holds a Diplom in economics from the University of Mainz. He has been a member of the German Bundestag since the 1998 election.

Financial Crisis

On the 14 September 2011, M.P. Rainer Brüderle announced that the article of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Philipp Rösler, about the possible benefits of a greek bankruptcy for the rest of the countries of the Eurozone, in the newspaper Die Welt, confirms the opinion of a large number of European Ministers of Finances.
